Traditional and New Media

Mass media is those means of communication that inform, persuade and entertain large numbers of people especially newspapers, magazines, radio and television. It is considered as the fourth estate of the society as well. It is the fourth branch of the government. The  voice and weapon of the people and the society as a whole. Mass media is a double-edged sword which means that there are positive as well as negative influence of media.

Traditional Media

Traditional media refers to the old and usually archaic way of disseminating information involving only one way of communication. It may also refer to the media used before the  advent of technological advances like televisions, radios, magazines, comics, books and other print publications.

New Media

New media refers to on-demand access to content any time, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as interactive user feedback, creative participation. Another aspect of new media is the real-time generation of new, unregulated content. Most technologies described as "new media" are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulated, networkable, dense, compressible, and interactive.

Traditional vs Modern; Old vs New

They always say that what's new and modern is always better compared to the old and traditional ones. But no matter what kind of media it is, media will always have its advantages and disadvantages.

In the traditional era, people then are more sociable, they are outgoing. They spend most of the time outside their house where they gain experiences they can never have if they are inside. They know how to face other people and got to enhance their skills in communicating in different ways. Their speech were heighten due to direct conversations. Their writing skills are sublime even their hand written are done delicately. I also believe that people back then are really healthy. They were able to move those muscles in playing instead of staying inside their houses where they all do is watch televisions, play video games and surf the internet, just like these days.

Also before the modern media, the information one can attain is very limited. People only depends on the what the televisions, radios and magazines give them. But on the lighter side of this, the information we can acquire are concise and reliable (set aside those media that are being influenced by people with power).

For the disadvantages of the traditional media, not every one can voice out and share their thoughts and opinions publicly. And even if they can it is just to expensive for them to make an tv advertisement, to broadcast on the radio or to publish a book.

We can now say that our world has improved a lot in many aspects, and that includes our technology and our media. Now we have computers, laptops, smartphones, tablets and such where we can access internet, social sites, e-mails, blogs, video blogs and others. This is the new media, where all sorts of information could be achieve in a click.

New media helped so many lives for so many times including me. From doing our assignments, finding answers to our questions, communication, and  even for entertainment  internet has always been there for us. Everything is easy if you have an internet connection, it's cheap, effortless, undemanding, it's everything but not hundred percent reliable. It is too convenient for others to use that they take advantage of it to deceive other people. Internet is too outstretched that no one can take a grip of it now, no one can control the informations that are spreading into it.

Another thing is that because of this new gadgets, people especially the kids and teens tend to stay at home. Socializing for them is not that important anymore as long as they have the internet. Their muscles are feeble because it's their eyes and hands are the only parts that are working even when they are playing. People also at the young age are exposed to themes that are not suitable for their ages.

Though we have this numerous disadvantages in using new media we cannot deny that there are still good reasons in using the it. And yes, I am taking this side. We can say that everything in new media has already a part in our life.

We can never change or avoid what we have now in the present. Everything only depends on how we are going to use these media to communicate, to help and to share. Too much is always harmful for us, and for our being, that is why we must know how our limitations.
